Holaaa Peapoders,
Special treat for you today! It's a brand new installment of 'SIM CROSSING,' a blog where I explore what SecondLife has to offer across its wonderful sims. {Please be sure to check out past installments of 'SIM CROSSING' in the archives page of my MUZY.}
The other day while discussing business with a Gamma Alpha Phi sister, we decided to expand our outreach by working with some SIMs and their Owners for events. The wonderful owner of "The Willowdale Community," Jess Patto, had welcomed us into her sim for this very reason. But as we began talking she revealed to me something very interesting about her character. She played a MONOCHROME character at times, and owned a MONOCHROME house, that not only was a greyscale household but also included greyscale sky and grass. O_O
*Just so you know...*
--->"Monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or shades of one color. A monochromatic object or image has colors in shades of limited colors or hues. Images using only shades of grey (with or without black and/or white) are called grayscale or black-and-white."{en.wikipedia.org/wiki...}
Any who, we got to talking more about this interesting and new idea of hers {relatively new to me} and expand on the topic. I decided to interview her to pick her brain on the 'why?' So here it is and I hope you enjoy! :]

[2012/04/25 22:29] Jess Patton: howdy :)
[2012/04/25 22:29] Manders Peapod smiles, "Holaaa"
[2012/04/25 22:30] Jess Patton: welcome to The Einfarb Outpost :) or.. just my little experiment in monochrome
[2012/04/25 22:33] Manders Peapod feels colorful
[2012/04/25 22:33] Jess Patton: aww :) well visitors are allowed their colors
[2012/04/25 22:33] You: thank you, i like being colorful :o
[2012/04/25 22:34] You: id actually like to try my to make my own outfit XD
[2012/04/25 22:35] Jess Patton: it's interesting .. hardest thing about it is getting a feel for the black and white
[2012/04/25 22:35] You: true
[2012/04/25 22:36] Jess Patton: sure you can take any texture into GIMP or Photoshop and make it greyscale .. but if you don't modify it abit 'to taste' .. they all look kinda.. flat
[2012/04/25 22:36] You: :/ yea i know what you mean
[2012/04/25 22:42] You: ok ill be taking pics as we go around the house if you dont mind
[2012/04/25 22:42] Jess Patton: i don't mind at all
[2012/04/25 22:43] You: and ill be asking you questions inbetween
[2012/04/25 22:43] Jess Patton: okay :)
[2012/04/25 22:43] Jess Patton: well. the front yard .. not done :)
[2012/04/25 22:43] Jess Patton: Linden trees don't come in monochrome
[2012/04/25 22:43] You: i understand :]
[2012/04/25 22:44] You: First question, what made you come up with the idea for this house?
[2012/04/25 22:44] Jess Patton: well I figured I can make an avatar monochrome, a house shouldn't be so hard
[2012/04/25 22:44] Jess Patton: .. the house was actually more time consuming
[2012/04/25 22:45] Jess Patton: come on in :)
[2012/04/25 22:45] Jess Patton: it's an automatic door, you don't have to click on it
[2012/04/25 22:45] You: this rug is really detailed
[2012/04/25 22:45] You: o.o
[2012/04/25 22:46] Jess Patton: :) it's a persian runner texture i greyscaled
[2012/04/25 22:46] You: how long do you think it has taken you to complete the amount you have worked on this house
[2012/04/25 22:47] Jess Patton: guessing? i don't know.. all told probably 20 or more hours
[2012/04/25 22:48] Jess Patton: but it's been a 'little bit here, little bit there' sort of project for over a year now :)
[2012/04/25 22:48] You: must have been interesting to work with the greyscale on the entire house at that, i cant imagine trying this
[2012/04/25 22:49] Jess Patton: first it was the house.. then the decorations and furnishings
[2012/04/25 22:49] Jess Patton: all of them hand built
[2012/04/25 22:49] Jess Patton: too much trouble to look for black and white stuff :p
[2012/04/25 22:50] You: LOL i see what you mean, these chairs are better than anything id ever come up with, then again i cant build for the life of me
[2012/04/25 22:50] Jess Patton: there aren't any poses in these seats .. a simple sit is all i can manage :)
[2012/04/25 22:51] Jess Patton: self made.. and i'm not a scripter :)
[2012/04/25 22:51] You: thats great
[2012/04/25 22:51] You: neither am i so im not here to judge XD
[2012/04/25 22:52] Jess Patton: hehe :)
[2012/04/25 22:52] Jess Patton: the whole house was built in a style how i think a small middle-class house would look in about 1915
[2012/04/25 22:53] Jess Patton: some of the decorations .. such as the lamp on this table, styled in a little later style
[2012/04/25 22:54] Jess Patton: such as in a Modernist style .. from 1925-1950's
[2012/04/25 22:54] You: yes thats what i figured, still flows with all the furniture in general
[2012/04/25 22:54] You: the radio stood out to me actually
[2012/04/25 22:54] Jess Patton: :)
[2012/04/25 22:54] You: i like it, its cute XD
[2012/04/25 22:54] Jess Patton: an old cathedral radio :)
[2012/04/25 22:54] Jess Patton: popular in the 30's
[2012/04/25 22:55] Jess Patton: :)
[2012/04/25 22:55] You: yes it was
[2012/04/25 22:57] Jess Patton: kitchen and dining .. area.. over here
[2012/04/25 22:57] Jess Patton: the table, another rug
[2012/04/25 22:58] You: wow this is a big table
[2012/04/25 22:58] You: :o
[2012/04/25 22:58] Jess Patton: yeah :)
[2012/04/25 22:58] Jess Patton: ktichen island table and cabinetry
[2012/04/25 22:58] Jess Patton: .. all textures i had to greyscale :p
[2012/04/25 22:58] You: that must have taken a long time
[2012/04/25 22:59] Jess Patton: the artwork on the walls are pics i found online that were already black and white
[2012/04/25 23:00] You: very nice
[2012/04/25 23:00] Jess Patton: it wasn't terrible, was fun, in fact :)
[2012/04/25 23:00] You: thats great
[2012/04/25 23:12] Jess Patton: here's where happy monochrome people can make their monochrome meals :)
[2012/04/25 23:13] Jess Patton: I made rooms
[2012/04/25 23:13] Jess Patton: most of them are empty
[2012/04/25 23:13] You: i see
[2012/04/25 23:15] Jess Patton: and the picket fence outside i put in yesturday
[2012/04/25 23:16] You: yes the fence came out very nicely
[2012/04/25 23:17] Jess Patton: the next room has a simple bed
[2012/04/25 23:17] Jess Patton: and more windows
[2012/04/25 23:18] You: i like the pillows
[2012/04/25 23:18] You: XD
[2012/04/25 23:18] Jess Patton: hehe :)
[2012/04/25 23:18] You: does it have animations
[2012/04/25 23:18] Jess Patton: no :)
[2012/04/25 23:18] You: aww lol
[2012/04/25 23:18] Jess Patton: and intentionally not :p
[2012/04/25 23:19] You: LOL
[2012/04/25 23:19] Jess Patton: i'm the sort that'd wanna make it a hot monochrome mess! :p
[2012/04/25 23:19] You: LOLOL
[2012/04/25 23:19] You: well *blushes*
[2012/04/25 23:20] Jess Patton: but no.. no poses
[2012/04/25 23:20] You: ok
[2012/04/25 23:20] Jess Patton: well .. why the color in the cheeks? :p
[2012/04/25 23:21] You: :s your comment about the "hot mess" im sure there would be alot of mixed greyscale going around :x
[2012/04/25 23:21] Jess Patton: yeah but no greyscale boys around to try to make greyscale babies with me heh
[2012/04/25 23:22] You: LOL
[2012/04/25 23:22] Jess Patton: i'd have to go for 'colored' boys
[2012/04/25 23:22] Jess Patton: or maybe 'in color' is a better phrase
[2012/04/25 23:23] Jess Patton giggles
[2012/04/25 23:23] You: oh im sure that language goes around well when talking about his, do people sometimes get mixed up when your talking about actual colors?
[2012/04/25 23:24] Jess Patton: meh .. sometimes
[2012/04/25 23:24] Jess Patton: of course sometimes i point at something that's grey in color and call it 'blue' or 'red'
[2012/04/25 23:24] Jess Patton: like when I blush .. i play it as 'pink' but it would be seen as a darker grey
[2012/04/25 23:25] Jess Patton: those pillows are the same striped texture as my bloomers heh.. dn't go looking up my skirt now
[2012/04/25 23:26] You: LOL! i noticed X_X when you sat on the counter
[2012/04/25 23:27] Jess Patton: ooh.. yeah
[2012/04/25 23:27] Jess Patton: pesky skirt
[2012/04/25 23:27] You: and im sure that it is hard to get some people to understand about the color thing, imsure i my self would have been a little confused as to what you may have been talking about
[2012/04/25 23:28] Jess Patton: well if i were to make up my own vernacular.. you would be a 'colored girl' :)
[2012/04/25 23:28] You: yes i figured XD
[2012/04/25 23:29] You: i just like the rainbow O_O
[2012/04/25 23:29] You: lol
[2012/04/25 23:29] Jess Patton: :) it's okay
[2012/04/25 23:30] Jess Patton: this is all an experiment, i would love to foster enough interest to launch a monochrome sim :)
[2012/04/25 23:31] You: I actually would like that idea, would you choose to have Roleplay? or just a sim for hanging out
[2012/04/25 23:31] Jess Patton: i'm not sure, i'm sure role play elements would evolve
[2012/04/25 23:32] Jess Patton: since the theme would be loosely based on 'black and white television'
[2012/04/25 23:32] You: yes and that would be a good character to portray on SL
[2012/04/25 23:33] Jess Patton: so i'd expect, and like, to see old cheesy western stuff, old goofy sci-fi and horror stuff ..
[2012/04/25 23:33] Jess Patton: all in delightful black and white :)
[2012/04/25 23:34] Jess Patton: i like planting a little seed .. and seeing where people take it :)
[2012/04/25 23:34] You: that would actually be interesting to see
[2012/04/25 23:34] You: would be great ideas for machinima
[2012/04/25 23:35] Jess Patton: i know
[2012/04/25 23:35] Jess Patton: :) but it's a challenge
[2012/04/25 23:35] Jess Patton: i'd hvae to reach content creators with a wild and creative spark enough to partake in such a thing
[2012/04/25 23:36] You: exactly
[2012/04/25 23:36] Jess Patton smiles
[2012/04/25 23:37] Jess Patton: but this place is open to the public, anyone can come visit and check it out :)
[2012/04/25 23:37] Jess Patton: eventually i'll have some information about monochrome content and my ideas
[2012/04/25 23:38] Jess Patton: and if it never happens, that's fine :) if it does, that'd be fantastic :)
[2012/04/25 23:39] You: im sure it would happen, i found interest in it when you told me about it, im sure there would be others, and if that makes me weird so be it, i love the idea
[2012/04/25 23:40] Jess Patton: well the majority of people I've told have some interest in it :)
[2012/04/25 23:40] Jess Patton: maybe not enough to reserve a parcel but definately enough to want to see it
[2012/04/25 23:42] You: yes and you can start it off with this small house you have here, im sure you can turn it into some form of museum, expand it then turn it into what you really want, a full scale sim
[2012/04/25 23:43] Jess Patton: with leased parcels full of people making their own monochrome lives :)
[2012/04/25 23:44] You: that would be very nice
[2012/04/25 23:44] Jess Patton: I think so too
[2012/04/25 23:44] Jess Patton: just as long as Willowdale doesn't suffer
[2012/04/25 23:52] You: I'm sure it wouldn't
[2012/04/25 23:52] You: I wanna thank you for interviewing with me today Jess, and I wish you the best of luck on everything and anything you decide to do, I am here to IM at anytime and soon enough we will be doing events together im sure
[2012/04/25 23:53] Jess Patton: it was a pleasure! I should get myself to bed soon anyway .. chaotic work schedule again
[2012/04/25 23:57] Jess Patton: okay :) again was very nice chatting
[2012/04/25 23:57] You: same here thank you again for taking the time out to do the interview
